In California and Massachusetts legalized marijuana

Residents of California and Massachusetts voted for the use of marijuana for recreational purposes, reports washingtonpost.com.

This topic has long been debated in California; about 12% of the US population lives in this state. The law now allows California residents (over 21 years of age) to possess, transport and purchase up to 28,5 grams of marijuana for recreational use. Journalists note that the new law expands the project already adopted 20 years ago to legalize marijuana for medical use.

Currently, marijuana is officially allowed in Colorado, Alaska, Oregon and Washington, as well as in the District of Columbia, but with restrictions. For example, in Washington marijuana cannot be sold, and in Oregon it is forbidden to keep at home more than four bushes. For medical purposes, marijuana can be used in 25 states.

Despite some legal difficulties, the sale of legal marijuana in the United States each year brings a steady income of $ 6 billion, writes gazeta.ru.

In 2016, revenues from the sale of marijuana are expected to be at $ 6,7 billion, which is 25% higher than in 2015.

By 2020, the legal sales of marijuana in the United States will increase to $ 21,8 billion, calculated by consulting firm ArcView, and by 2026, their volume could reach $ 50 billion. Demand for products is high: more than 32 million Americans have admitted that they periodically use marijuana, around 8 million use it on an ongoing basis.
