The victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election cost the woman more than half a million US dollars, reports Business Insider, citing the bookmaker.
4 weeks before the election, an unknown woman placed an online bid of $ 597 thousand to win the election of the second presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton. Clinton was considered the favorite to become the 45 president of the United States, but Donald Trump surprised many political commentators, financial markets, sociologists and bookmakers, winning the election.
British bookmakers have taken bets worth over 4 million pounds to win Trump or Clinton, according to bookmakers. So, one of the players from Northumberland, in the north-east of England, lost a thousand pounds 181, making a bet on a Democrat candidate. And another London client of the bookmaker put the 150 thousand pounds to Clinton to win.
In total, the sweepstakes took about 20 million pounds on the outcome of US elections.
Despite forecasts, some managed to increase their fortune. For example, the owner of a hotel in Cornwall, southeast England, made a profit in 100 thousand pounds after placing 30 betting on Trump's victory. The bookmaker’s office also paid 101,7 thousand pounds to a client in Nottingham, who put 37 thousand pounds on Trump.
