The United States will introduce new restrictions for international flights

National Security Department 28 June intends to announce new security measures for international flights related to the United States.

This may lead to the lifting of the ban on bringing notebooks into the aircraft cabin, reports NBC, with reference to its sources.

According to the Department’s decision, airlines operating direct flights to the United States will be required to perform enhanced security measures. If they do not, their passengers may be forbidden to bring laptops and other large electronics into the cabin.

The ban on large electronics in the cabin has already been introduced for direct flights to the US from 10 airports in the Middle East and Africa: Amman (Jordan); Kuwait (Kuwait); Cairo (Egypt); Istanbul, Turkey); Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia); Casablanca (Morocco); Doha (Qatar); Dubai and Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

The new security policy will provide an opportunity for airlines and airports to lift these bans by introducing additional checks. At the same time, government sources did not clarify what specific steps are being referred to, citing the fact that they are not entitled to discuss this before the official statement of the Department of National Security.

Changes occurred after the Transportation Security Administration announced that it was testing a computerized tomography (CT) technology for hand luggage at one of the checkpoints at the international airport. Phoenix Sky Harbor.

This technology is already used to check the baggage of passengers, but the cost and large size of CT scanners limited its use for hand luggage.

CT scanners create a three-dimensional image of the bag and its contents, which can be rotated to better see what is in it. Suspicious bags can be removed to the side and conduct additional checks.

American airlines that participate in the test, said that the technology can allow passengers to leave laptops, liquids and aerosols in their hand luggage, speeding up the process of checking at the airport and increasing its convenience.
