McDonald's employees from different states file harassment lawsuits

10 women from nine cities signed statements about sexual harassment that they suffered while working in McDonald's restaurants, writes Associated press.

One of the employees - 15-year-old girl from St. Louis - said that the supervisor offered her sex and made obscene comments. According to the complaints, when women reported harassment, they were either ignored or bullied, in some cases women were punished.

Legal proceedings were organized by Fight for $ 15. All legal expenses are covered by the TIMES UP Legal Defense Foundation, which has been operational since January 2018.

A spokeswoman for McDonald's, Terry Hickey, said that the workplace "has no place for harassment and discrimination."

"McDonald's takes allegations of sexual misconduct very seriously and is confident that our independent franchisees, who own approximately 90% of our 14 U.S. restaurants, share that position," Hickey said.

Fight for $ 15 two years ago filed a complaint with McDonald's about sexual harassment. Then the company promised to investigate these complaints. Hickey refused to comment on how the investigation affected the situation and whether steps were taken to stop the harassment.

One of the victims - 22-year-old Tanya Harrell from New Orleans claims that two managers molested her. But after she complained, no measures were taken against them.

In addition to girls from St. Louis and New Orleans, complaints were filed by residents of Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Florida, Durham, North Carolina, and Kansas City, Missouri.
