How much to tip: the program calculates tip size in different countries
As is known, in different countries of the world the idea of whether or not to leave tips to service personnel, and in what size, varies greatly.
Programmers Ivan Karpan and Eugene Lebed thought about this, who 5 developed the GlobeTipping app for iOS years ago, which allows them to correctly calculate the tip size for traveling in 200 + countries and jurisdictions.
The program is quite simple. It consists of an alphabetical reference book and a calculator. By selecting a country, you can find out about the procedure for rewarding the staff and calculate how much to leave a tip.
Even without delving into the wilds of this directory, any traveler knows what approaches there are in principle to this question. The range is quite wide - from Israel, where the café attendants will be offended if they do not see their tips on a saucer with a check, to Japan, where, on the contrary, an insult is an attempt to give a tip to people who just do their work (and get paid for it ).
In some countries, tips are rationed by some local tradition as a fixed percentage of the bill amount, and each visitor knows in advance how much should be left to the waiter or barman.
In other countries (for example, in Western Europe) it is customary to leave tea with change from the paper note.
If the tradition does not regulate the size of the tip, but does not reject them in principle, it is also good, because through the sum the guest can express the widest range of sensations from the service, ranging from resentment to admiration (that is, from 0 to 20%).
And if the tip is really able to offend the Japanese - who are we to teach samurai to our notions. Let them live on wages, we do not mind.
