Accounts of Russian diplomatic missions in Belgium unblocked

The accounts of Russian diplomatic missions in Belgium, previously frozen pursuant to a decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague on the case of former Yukos shareholders, have been unblocked.

This was stated by Russia's Permanent Representative to NATO, Alexander Grushko.

“The accounts of diplomatic missions are unblocked, it could not be otherwise,” Grushko said.

In June in France and Belgium property was arrested, which the authorities of these countries consider to be Russian, pursuant to the decision of the arbitration court in The Hague under the suit of the former shareholders of YUKOS. This decision requires Russia to pay 50 billions in total to a number of companies that are former shareholders of Yukos.

Russia said it would challenge these decisions. Later, the Belgian authorities decided to unblock part of the Russian accounts.
