San Francisco became the first major city in the United States with a minimum salary of $ 15

On Friday afternoon, city officials and labor lawyers, who fought with 2014 for the increase in the minimum wage in San Francisco, celebrated their victory.

The bill, sponsored by the late Mayor Ed Lee and several labor organizations, would have raised the minimum wage by about a dollar an hour annually to July 2018 of the year to reach the mark in 15 dollars per hour, writes ABC7News.

“We have a very simple philosophy in San Francisco: No one who works full-time should live in poverty,” says Assemblymember Phil Ting. - This is an amazing victory... But we won’t stop. Until we can pay people a wage with which they can rent a house, buy a house, raise a family, put food on the table and have a decent life in the richest city in the richest state, we have a lot of work to do.”

The minimum wage in California is now about $11 an hour. San Francisco became the first major American city to achieve a minimum wage of $15 an hour for all working residents. The last time the minimum wage was increased in several stages, stopping in 2017 at $14 per hour. When the bill was filed in 2014, the wage was $10,74 per hour, but when it was initiated, it was only $8,50 per hour.

According to the city administration, since the minimum wage began to rise in 2015, the city’s unemployment rate has fallen to a historic low. In April of this year, the figure was fixed at 2,1 percent, which is the lowest since 1990 of the year.

In recent years, residents of other cities in the Bay Area have also successfully fought for a minimum wage of 15 dollars per hour. On Sunday, the city of Emeryville will reach this mark; in October, a similar increase is waiting for Berkeley. In January, this happened with Mountain View and Sunnyvale, Palo Alto will come to the same indicator in January 2019.
