Putin promised to respond to the arrest of Russian assets
Russia will defend its interests in connection with the arrest of assets abroad, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“There cannot but be a reaction, we will defend our interests,” Putin said at a meeting with the heads of foreign news agencies. He clarified that this will be done through judicial procedures.
“The fact that YUKOS shareholders are trying to get additional funds from Russia is nothing new here. We have encountered similar manifestations before, both from this company and from our other partners, including from European international companies,” Putin said.
Earlier, a similar reaction was made by the head of the Russian Ministry of Justice, Alexander Konovalov, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who said that Russia could mirror the arrest of its property and accounts abroad.
