After long negotiations, Elon Musk nevertheless bought Twitter and promised to cancel censorship there: now everyone is waiting for Trump to be returned there

On April 25, Tesla and SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk closed a deal to buy Twitter Inc for $44 billion, giving control of the platform, populated by millions of users and world leaders, to the world's richest man. Writes about it Reuters.

Discussions of the deal accelerated after Musk coaxed Twitter shareholders to tell them more about his offer.

Twitter has entered into negotiations with Musk to buy the company at a suggested price of $54,20 per share.

The deal ends Twitter's history as a public company since its initial public offering in 2013.

“Freedom of speech is the foundation of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is a digital forum for discussing issues vital to the future of humanity,” Musk said in a statement.

Twitter shares rose about 6% after the news of the Twitter purchase.

Musk has not publicly commented on how he will handle the suspended 45th US President Donald Trump's Twitter account. But his free speech comments sparked speculation that he might be able to reactivate Trump's account, which was banned from the platform last year.

Trump says he won't return

Trump said he will not return to Twitter, even when Elon Musk buys the platform and will use his own social network TRUTH Social, writes Fox News.

Trump revealed that he will officially join TRUTH Social within the next seven days as planned.

"I'm not going to Twitter, I'm staying at TRUTH," Trump said. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he will improve it and he is a good person, but I will stay with TRUTH.”

Trump Media & Technology Group's social media platform, TRUTH Social, officially launched last month and has been running for four days on its brand new cloud services after beta testing since February. Former Rep. Devin Nunes (CA) is the company's CEO.

“The response on TRUTH is much better than on Twitter,” Trump said. “There are bots and fake accounts on Twitter, and we do everything we can to make sure we don’t have that.”

Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Twitter considered a number of his tweets related to violent protests to be inflammatory and warned "the risk of further incitement to violence."

When asked if Musk-owned Twitter could compete with TRUTH, Trump said he thought it would be a positive development in the social media space.

"I think it is good. We want freedom, justice and fairness in our country, and the more we can open, the better,” Trump said. “But no, I don’t see it as a competition.”

“TRUTH is a platform for my voice and my supporters,” Trump said. “But I want everyone to come to TRUTH—conservatives, liberals, whoever.”

Trump said Twitter "became very boring because the conservatives left the platform when I left."

“I hope even my worst critics stay on Twitter because that’s what freedom of speech is,” Musk tweeted.
