Winner of the largest lottery jackpot donated part of the winnings to tornado victims in Alabama

The winner of the largest Mega Millions jackpot in US history - $1,5 billion - shared her winnings, writes CNN.

The winner from South Carolina, who wished to remain anonymous, donated part of the prize to the Alabama Red Cross to help combat the effects of the tornado and several charitable organizations in South Carolina.

According to her lawyer Jason Kurland, she decided to donate money because the tornado happened on the day she received the money.

“It seemed like we were having a great event and there were people nearby who were suffering,” Kurland said.

He stressed that the winner does not want to disclose the amount she donates to charity.

“I understand that such luck comes with a huge social responsibility and gives me a unique opportunity to help, support and contribute to a charity that is close to my heart,” the woman says.

After winning 2018 in October, a woman took back the amount of 878 million dollars and it was the largest one-time payment for a lottery prize in US history. The remaining amount of the woman did not take until March 4. She attracted experts who help her to maintain anonymity and manage the acquired state. In South Carolina, lottery winners can remain anonymous.

Recall, March 4 on the state of Alabama hit a tornado. The element claimed the lives of more than 20 people. Among the dead were children.
