NASA shows a photo of a hole in the corona of the sun
NASA experts have posted stunning photos that display a huge hole in the corona of the Sun, exceeding the size of the Earth 50 times.
A huge hole was recently discovered at the top of the Sun's corona thanks to NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Through this hole, the matter of the star bursts out at an incredible speed. And although it looks scary, astronomers reassure - our planet is not in danger of this cataclysm.
Experts point out that similar holes in the Sun are magnetic active zones that generate high-speed solar wind. These dark, low regions of the corona — the outer atmosphere of the sun — contain some solar matter. They have lower temperatures and, in the end, appear much darker than their surroundings. Coronal holes are common, they appear in different places with different regularity at different times during the whole cycle of activity of our star.
Scientists say that the hole is so huge that it can be available for observation with the naked eye. But since a direct view of the sun is dangerous to the eye, NASA astronomers do not advise people to try to find a hole by simply looking at the sun.
