In Hawaii, Kilauea Volcano erupts: evacuation begins. A PHOTO. VIDEO
On the largest island of Hawaii, the eruption of Kilauea volcano began, located near the settlement of Leilani Estates, which is home to about 1700 people.
A state of emergency has been declared on the island; local residents are being evacuated, reports Air Force
As reported by the local Civil Defense Agency, a very high level of sulfur dioxide was recorded in the evacuation zone, representing a danger to the population.
The eruption was preceded by strong tremors, felt in recent days.
The lateral slag cone of the Pou-oo volcano of Kilauea collapsed at the beginning of the week, and the lava began to flow down the slope in the direction of residential areas.
All last week, the authorities warned local residents about the need to be ready for evacuation, because, scientists warned, the volcano will not give any obvious signs of a beginning eruption.
Local resident Maidzha Stenbak:
We live in Leilani Estates, six blocks from the eruption site.
We were evacuated a couple of hours ago, and now we are spending the night with friends. We are me, my daughter, her boyfriend, and their two children, who are six years and 20 months old. We were all put in a car and driven away.
Half an hour after the eruption began, messages about him appeared on social networks, and my daughter and I went to look. The eruption can be heard and felt at a distance of half a mile, and the closer you come, the more it is felt.
As if someone is playing very loudly on the bass: you really feel this power.
The color of the lava was incredible, and the sound too. The sound is very explosive, as if the explosion was breaking out of a hole with tremendous force. You feel it more than you hear it.
Hawaii Governor David Ege has mobilized National Guard reservists who will help evacuate thousands of locals.
On television, you can see the lava flowing from Mount Kilauea moving through the road and the adjacent gardens.
The close-up shot from the drone shows lava breaking through a crack in a wooded residential area and spreading along the road.
Kilauea Volcano is considered one of the most active in the world. He erupted in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2017.
It is located southeast of the higher volcano Mauna Loa and is located almost on its slope. But it is a separate volcano, because it has an independent magmatic chamber.
