The powerful storm that hit 2 February on California brought heavy rain, wind and very heavy snow in the mountains. The storm series will have a further impact on the region over the next few days.
The rainy weather on Saturday caused a flood in Malibu, on the Los Angeles River in Glendale, and also led to the flooding of the Pacific Coast highway. The storm brought devastating winds to Southern California, with gusts up to 76 miles (122 km) per hour, almost 18 inches (46 cm) of fresh snow fell on Mammoth Mountain, and in Acton there were reports of a possible whirlwind, writes 6ABC.
Rain in the region was very intense: 0,23 inches (0,58 cm) in 10 minutes in Beverly Hills, 0,31 inches (0,79 cm) in 5 minutes in Malibu, and half an inch (1,27 cm) rain in five minutes in Santa Barbara.

A member of the Ventura County search and rescue team was killed, nine others were injured in a car accident caused by the heavy rain at the Pyramids Lake.
The rescue team was at the crash site of another vehicle on the Interstate 5 highway when the minivan lost control on the wet road and crashed into the crew members.
“This is a very sad situation that could have been avoided,” said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Tony Imbrenda, reminding motorists to slow down when driving in the rain.
Between 1 and 3 inches (2,5 to 8 cm) of rain fell in parts of California, with some areas receiving up to 5 inches (13 cm).

On the eve of the storm, mandatory or recommended evacuations were announced in regions with a high risk of mudflows and landslides due to recent fires.
The 101 highway in Santa Barbara County and the Pacific Coast highway in Malibu were closed due to high water, mudflows and debris on the road.
On some roads, the water depth reached 3 feet (91 cm).

Santa Barbara City College canceled classes on Saturday because of a storm.
Ventura County officials and the National Weather Service warned locals of the need to stay away from the Matilla dam area due to the very strong water flow. In this region, rain was recorded around 5 inches (13 cm).

Tornado alerts operated for some areas in Butte, Colus and Glenn counties on Saturday afternoon. Although the tornado was not confirmed, there were reports of funnel clouds.
The gusty wind brought down trees and power lines, leaving more than 33 000 residents of the region without electricity.
A few more storms will bring bad weather to the western regions of the United States before Tuesday. Heavy rains on Sunday morning hit most of the California coast, and the strongest rain was recorded between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, 1 to 2 inches (2,5 to 5 cm) of rain will fall along the Southern California coastline. 7 to 10 feet (2 to 3 meters) of snow is expected in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Snow is also expected in the northern Rocky Mountains, where 30-60 cm of snow is forecast.
