President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko drove a Tesla electric car and commissioned to create a domestic analogue, and also called for developing electric transport in the country, writes Currently,.

After the trip, Lukashenko praised the car: “The Americans have created a supercar. Well done!” He added that the Belarusian electric car based on Geely “looks decent in appearance,” but does not yet reach the level of Tesla.

“Your promises inspire me and, on the other hand, alarm me. If we can create the best battery in the world - an energy storage device - why don't we create it? What is needed for that? People, money, competencies? This needs to be implemented immediately,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

“This is the future, we cannot fall behind. With our competencies, with such science, we cannot trail behind... No one, the day after tomorrow, in the near future, will buy cars with an internal combustion engine en masse as they did before. Compare this car to the one we created and strive for that.”

“The battery is one of the main elements. No need to stick it in the trunk. As you saw, it was placed on the bottom of a Tesla, and, as I understand it, it even holds the car at high speed, balances the movement... The main thing is to create a good engine. You have the basis. Therefore, the purpose of today's conversation is that I showed you the car. Study, look. This is the best that exists,” added the head of Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko said that he closely follows the development of electric vehicles: “This is not my first acquaintance with such cars. I know Mitsubishi was created in its time. Worse, maybe. Then BMW - good, very nimble, fast, smaller in size. And here is the third car that I have to test. I’m revealing all my personal cards to you: cars have been my hobby since ancient times, I follow the development of this industry.”

Lukashenko also drew attention to the need to develop other types of electric transport, including bicycles, motorcycles and scooters: “We have this enterprise. You can already do this, it needs to be launched faster. For a village there is one option, for a city another.

“We need to switch to electricity. We're already late. Connect everyone and start working,” Lukashenko said.

Recall that about a month ago Tesla sent its newest electric cars Tesla Model 3s 30 customers who first issued pre-orders.
