Kurt Volker presented Poroshenko with a declaration of the US State Department on non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea

On September 25, on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York, US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker presented President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a declaration of the US State Department on non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

"It is a great honor for me to present President Poroshenko with a copy of the Crimean Declaration, signed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo," he wrote on Twitter, quoting Crimea.Real.

Poroshenko thanked Kurt Volcker for "a symbolic gift."

“Thank you for the symbolic gift - a copy of the declaration of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dated July 25, 2018. The document clearly and unambiguously sets out the US position regarding non-recognition of the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea by the Russian Federation,” the head of the Ukrainian state commented on Twitter.

July 25 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has released the "Crimean Declaration", which says that the United States will never recognize the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Pompeo said that the United States will continue to insist on the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

International organizations recognized the occupation and annexation of Crimea as illegal and condemned Russia's actions. Western countries have introduced a number of economic sanctions. Russia denies the occupation of the peninsula and calls it "the restoration of historical justice."

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared the date of the beginning of the temporary occupation of the Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia 20 February 2014.
