Two competing GoFundMe campaigns, one to raise money to pay for President Donald Trump's border wall and another to raise money to buy ladders to climb over the wall, continue to accept donations.

President Donald Trump told House GOP leaders he would not pass the Senate bill because it did not include enough funding for a border wall between the United States and Mexico. As a result, the country began a “shutdown”—the closure of the government.

But Florida resident Brian Calfage decided he was ready to do his bit to fund the wall. Four days ago, a veteran with a triple amputation who survived the war in Iraq opened his page on GoFundMeto encourage ordinary Americans to participate in fundraising for the construction of the wall.

“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump invest 80 dollars, we can build a wall,” the campaign description says.

The crowdfunding campaign called We The People Will Fund The Wall at the time of this writing has already collected more than 16,8 million dollars, approaching the mark of 1 billion dollars.

On Wednesday, December 19, Charlotte Climer, a veteran of the army, a transgender and a human rights activist from Texas, launched her own fundraising page called "Ladders to Overcome Trump's Wall" (Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall).

“We have seen some people raising money for a border wall to keep out their immigrant brothers and sisters and others who are fleeing violence and persecution and whose labor is essential to the US economy,” the fundraising page reads. “We need to make sure the ladders for Trump's wall are ready for our undocumented friends.”

At the time of this writing, more than $ 147 000 has been collected with an ultimate goal of $ 100 millions. The donation was made by more 6600 people.

Climer, who works as a quick-response spokesperson for the human rights campaign, explained that if the campaign did not collect the indicated 100 million dollars, the funds raised would go to the RAICES Education and Legal Services Center for Refugees and Immigrants.

RAICES is the largest provider of legal immigration services in Texas, according to their website.
