Ford has announced the creation of a completely autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel and pedals to the 2021 year.

The vehicle will be designed to move around the city in a large flow of cars, writes The Verge.

To achieve this goal, Ford is working with various sensor systems, computer and software companies - in particular, with the Israeli SAIPS, which develops software for different types of cars.

The company has also increased the intensity of research at its Palo Alto center and plans to expand its staff by half to the end of 2017.

Ford management says that the company is currently not ready to demonstrate or tell how this car will look like; at the moment, the company's developers have focused on software that will allow the car to work without a driver.

The idea is to create a car of 4-th level of automation, which can itself cope with driving on the roads, however, while on a strictly limited area, which may be reduced only to Manhattan at first.

The task of the developers is to enable the car to move independently on those territories for which high resolution maps have already been created. This simplifies the task of the developers a little, since they do not need to create a universal machine capable of driving on all roads.

In addition to the rather complex software development, all companies that planned to produce cars without drivers should still wait for the decision of Congress to allow them to produce and sell such cars at all.

It is not yet clear what fate Ford predicts for such cars - public sales or exhibitions, because at the moment there are unlikely to be many who want to buy a car without a steering wheel and pedals, moreover, with a limited number of roads on which it can drive.

But over the years 5, by the year 2021 everything can change.

Currently, Google and Uber are engaged in developing driverless cars.
