The eruption of a volcano in Guatemala: the number of dead and wounded is growing. A PHOTO. VIDEO
At least 25 people died and hundreds were injured during the eruption of the volcano Fuego, located in 40 km south-west of the capital of Guatemala. The volcano erupts hot lava, the ash settles in the surrounding villages.
The exact death toll is still unknown, but most likely there will be more. Representatives of the rescue services say they can not get to some areas. Capital Airport is closed, writes Air Force
According to the authorities of Guatemala, about three thousand people were evacuated. In total, more than 1,7 million people live in the area affected by the eruption. The authorities are asking people to stay away from the rivers, as stones and lava flow along them.
According to the latest data, the lava flow changed direction and covered the city of El Rodeo with a population of about 14 thousand people and the village of La Libertad in the department of San Marcos. It is reported that many people died right in their homes.
The President of Guatemala, Jimmy Morales, declared a state of emergency in the country and declared three days of national mourning.
“We think at least three areas may be destroyed,” he said.
This eruption, according to experts, is the largest since 1974.
I hope people stay in Guatemala safe.

How many dead?
The video, published by local media, shows bodies lying in a lava flow and rescuers reaching people covered in ashes. It is reported that among the victims are children.
As the head of the national emergency agency Sergio Cabanas told a local radio station, the El Rodeo area was buried under lava and ash.
“Unfortunately, El Rodeo is buried and we cannot reach the village of La Libertad because of the lava. Perhaps there are dead there too,” he said.
He added that in the course of the rescue operation, one of the officers of the department also died.
