Immigration agents arrested more illegal immigrants in 2018 than in previous 3 years
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) made more arrests of illegal immigrants in the 2018 fiscal year than in the previous three years.

In 2018, 158 people were arrested 851 people, which is 11% more than in 2017 year, writes Reuters.
The number of arrests of immigrants who do not have a criminal history but are illegally staying in the country increased by almost a third compared with the 2017 year, reaching 20 464 detentions. These arrests accounted for 13% of all ICE arrests made in 2018, compared with 11% a year earlier.
According to ICE, other immigrants arrested in the 2018 fiscal year were either convicted criminals or criminal cases against them were pending in the courts. The number of people who were not convicted at the time of arrest, but criminal investigations were conducted, was 2018% higher in 48 than in 2017, while the number of those arrested with criminal convictions decreased slightly.
Criminal convicts accounted for 66% of all arrests in 2018, while defendants awaiting court decisions accounted for 21% of those arrested.
Under President Donald Trump, US law enforcement officials have expanded the practice of arresting illegal immigrants without criminal convictions.
The most common criminal charges against persons arrested by ICE in 2018 were alcohol or drug driving, traffic offenses and immigration criminal offenses, which include repeated illegal entry after deportation, a false statement of US citizenship or smuggling of people .
