18 state governors refuse to accept Syrian refugees
Governors began to refuse to accept Syrian refugees in their states after a series of terrorist attacks in Paris. 18 governors have already made such statements; most of them represent the Republican Party.
The temporary refusal to accommodate refugees, in particular, said the governors of Texas, Indiana and Illinois. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said he wanted more information about refugees before he allowed them to come to his state.
The three governors, who were nominated by the Republicans for US presidency, also demanded that they stop accepting refugees. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that exceptions should not be made even for underage orphans.
Previously, the Forum wrote that senior American politicians have repeatedly expressed concerns about the trustworthiness of refugees from Syria. Thus, commenting on Obama's initiative to enlarge limit for them to 10 thousand people, a contender for the presidency of Donald Trump said: “We are kind people and want everyone to feel good. But given the problems our country already faces, accepting hundreds of thousands of refugees, many of whom have big problems themselves, is crazy.”
