US Department of State and USAID failed to keep track of $ 30 with billions of international assistance
The State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were unable to track more than $ 30 billions that they spend annually on foreign aid. This is stated in the government report of the Office of the Inspector General of the State Department, writes The Hill.
It specifically says that USAID was unable to build the infrastructure to track billions of dollars in foreign aid, despite orders to do so in 2015.
Despite the recommendation of the inspector general in 2015, management “cannot receive timely and accurate data necessary to ensure centralized oversight of foreign assistance activities and compliance with regulatory reporting requirements."
According to the report, only minor progress was made in this matter.
The Trump administration has proposed reducing international aid by 37%. This step was criticized by members of the Republican Party, from which Trump ran for president. They called this idea a "catastrophe."
The US Assistant Secretary of State said that the department accepted the recommendations of the inspector general and will begin their implementation.
