Jewish Federations of North America call for visa-free entry to the US for Israelis
Jewish Federations of North America sent an appeal to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Head of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mallorcas calling for Israel to be included in the Visa Waiver Program by September 30, when Israel's participation in the program expires. The appeal was signed by the heads of 121 Jewish federations of the USA and Canada, the leadership of the Council for Relations with Jewish Communities and other Jewish organizations.
"Israel is an important ally and trading partner of the United States, therefore, Israel's entry into the Visa Waiver Program will promote the development of cultural, business and educational ties between our two countries," the statement says.
The letter also notes that Israel's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program "will be significant to the nearly half a million Israelis who visit the United States each year."
“We recognize that there are still some issues that need to be resolved before Israel can be accepted into this program,” the appeal said. “We encourage all parties to take all steps to ensure that the necessary actions are completed before the deadline.”
The Visa Waiver Program currently allows citizens of 40 participating countries to enter the United States for short stays (up to 90 days) without a visa, and also offers U.S. citizens visa-free travel when visiting participating countries.
