The crash of a passenger Boeing at the Rostov airport on March 19 occurred as a result of the pilots switching the stabilizer of the airliner to the “dive” position, experts from the commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) concluded.

The crew performed landing in manual mode under adverse weather conditions, the autopilot was turned off. The pilots decided to go to the second round after receiving information about a sharp change in wind parameters. The plane was in the vicinity of the airport, the crew was expecting improved weather conditions.

“During the repeated approach, which was also carried out in manual control mode, the crew at an altitude of 220 m (4 km before the runway) decided to “go around” and initiated a climb with the engines switching to takeoff mode.” , - says the IAC message.

At an altitude of 900 meters, the aircraft's stabilizer was deflected five degrees into a dive at the same time as the crew pulled back the steering wheel. Because of this, the plane began to decrease altitude.

“The subsequent actions of the crew did not prevent the plane from colliding with the ground. The collision occurred at a speed of more than 600 km/h with a dive pitch angle of more than 50 degrees,” the IAC reported.

The results of decoding the “black boxes” showed that the main version of the disaster was the chaotic actions of the pilots in difficult weather conditions.

“According to preliminary data, the pilots were unable to navigate the current situation in a timely manner and make the right decision to avoid a disaster,” said a source familiar with the situation.

A Boeing 737 flying from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don crashed on the night of March 19 near the airport runway. All 62 people on board were killed.
