The White House has officially announced its intention to introduce a state of emergency for the construction of the wall.

US President Donald Trump will sign a compromise bill on government funding that will prevent another shatdown, but also declare a state of emergency in the country and try to get money to build a border wall between the US and Mexico from other parts of the federal budget.

This February 14 spokesperson for the White House, Sarah Sanders, writes RBC.

“President Trump will sign the state funding bill, and, as he stated earlier, he will also take other executive measures, including a state of emergency in the country, to ensure that we stop the threat to national security and prevent a humanitarian crisis on the border,” Sanders said.

The vote on the government funding bill in the Senate, where the Republicans have a majority, has already taken place - the document was supported by a majority of votes. A vote is due later in the House of Representatives, where Democrats have a majority. If the vote there is successful, then in order to avoid another shutdown, Trump must sign the budget before midnight on February 15.

Compromise on public funding previously was agreed between Republicans and Democrats, and he did not anticipate the allocation of money for the construction of the border wall. Trump stated that he was “extremely dissatisfied” with the compromisebut he stressed that he did not want to allow another shatdaun.

Democrats criticized Trump's idea of ​​declaring a state of emergency in the country. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi warned that declaring a state of emergency could set a precedent in which, for example, the Democratic president could take advantage of a similar step in the issue of gun violence. Pelosi did not rule out that she would challenge in court the possible declaration of a state of emergency in the country.

The Trump administration expects that it can use the state of emergency to redirect money already allocated by Congress to defense purposes for the construction of the wall.

Financing the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico was the main disagreement between Republicans and Democrats, which is why in December 2018 in the United States there was a shatdown (government suspension). Trump requires the allocation of billions of dollars for this 5,7 project, but Democrats categorically refuse to finance the construction of the border fence.
