The Belarusian programmer has created an inexpensive prosthesis and shared his drawings. Video

Minsky programmer Oleg Galtsev created for his father an electromechanical prosthetic arm, which cost almost 20 less than its counterpart. All components for the prosthesis can be printed on an 3D printer.

Two Minsk specialists have been working on an artificial brush for about two years: Oleg Galtsev is responsible for programming and developing the project, and Sergey Arefyev for 3D modeling and mechanics. The main and first user of the tech brush is Oleg's father, who lost an arm about 20 years ago.

The guys said about the work on the prosthesis about a year ago: then only one finger was connected to the control system. For a year, the developers created an entire brush and tested it with the help of Oleg's father. The results of their work, they shared in the plot for the YouTube channel Social Weekend Belarus.

The main feature of the prosthesis is a simple control system. A person can rotate that part of the arm that remained below his elbow. This will be the main signal for the mechanism. Special "pincers" firmly hold the stump and react to the turn. They can rotate inside the mechanism. The outer layer, the “casing”, “clings” to the rest of the hand and remains motionless.

A “smart” prosthesis in European clinics costs 25 − 30 thousands of euros. Thanks to the purchase of inexpensive components and the printout of parts on the 3D printer, Oleg and Sergey were able to reduce the cost of the prosthesis to $ 1500. Also developers shared on the web, a ready-made file for printing on an 3D printer and published a list of components — now anyone can assemble a prosthesis.
