Amtrak is giving away 50% discount on summer travel: hurry up to book a trip

Amtrak is giving away 50% off for Mother's Day. The sale is available for booking until May 17 and is valid for trips from June 1 to August 30. To book, travelers must use promo code C514 online or on the Amtrak app. Writes about it Travel and Leisure.

As part of the sale, travelers can book either an economy ticket on most routes or an Acela business class ticket.

“Give mom, grandma, a special aunt or other loved one an unforgettable opportunity to travel on Amtrak with a guest or a special trip for two,” Amtrak wrote. “And if you want to bring the whole family, Amtrak recently updated its child discounts so all children ages 2 to 12 can travel 50% off when accompanied by an adult.”

Travel from Boston to New York, for example, starts at just $46,50 for two passengers, or $87 for two passengers on the Acela. Or fly from Atlanta to Washington for just $159 for two. Travelers hoping to enjoy stunning West Coast views can travel from Los Angeles to Portland for as little as $147 for two passengers, or from San Francisco to Portland for as little as $112,50 for two.

And travelers who want to take advantage of Amtrak's unique road train can travel from Virginia to Florida starting at just $142,50 for two passengers plus the cost of their vehicle.

Amtrak plans to upgrade its night and long-distance trains and recently introduced Night Owl fares on select routes on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor starting at $5. The company is also working to upgrade its Acela trains on the Northeast Corridor to be equipped with touchless luggage storage and winged headrests.

Amtrak has now extended the waiver of change fees for bookings made through December 31, 2023. However, some cancellation fees still apply and travelers who cancel their economy fare ticket 24 hours after purchase will only be eligible to receive 75% of the original ticket price in the form of a non-refundable e-voucher.
