American boxer Roy Jones Jr. decided to become a Russian musician

The famous American boxer Roy Jones Jr., who received Russian citizenship in 2015, has completed his sports career and will focus on his musical activities, said Dmitry Luchnikov, sports director of the Patriot promotion company.

In September he received Russian citizenship, ex-world champion in four weight categories in various versions, Jones in December was knocked out former WBO heavyweight belt winner Briton Enzo Maccarinelli in the fourth round.

Later, 46-year-old Jones said that he did not rule out his appearance in the ring in the future. That same month, Jones was announced as honorary president of the new promotion company Patriot.

“Fighting, no, we definitely don’t want him to fight. I think it would be logical to say [that Jones ended his career],” Luchnikov said by phone.

The interlocutor of the agency also said that Jones will concentrate on his musical activities, as well as organizing a professional tournament in Russia.

“Now we are planning to organize - he made a request - his musical activities in Russia. We also plan to launch a series of Roy Jones Cup tournaments in professional boxing. There will be some kind of prize from Roy for the best boxer in the tournament or fights. We are working on the calendar grid with him and getting ready to begin implementation. In reality, I think it will be closer to the summer, because Roy has a contract with American television, we need to agree on dates,” Luchnikov noted.

“We hope to see Roy soon and discuss everything. We are communicating with his lawyer and have already begun to prepare a contract for a series of joint events. He is beginning to implement what he announced at the end of last year,” the source added.

Previously ForumDaily reported that Roy Jones got Russian passport in September of this year. Before applying for Russian citizenship, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of state agreed to help Jones, provided that he linked his future with activities in Russia.
