American lawyer sues 19 Ukrainians for reviews on Facebook

A US lawyer from Skoki, Illinois, sued a group of Ukrainians from the local community who, he claims, have undermined his online reputation.

Bankruptcy attorney David Freydin sued 19 people who, according to him, left disparaging comments about him and his business on social networks, writes CBS Chicago.

Some of the defendants claim that the messages in social networks were written in response to the insulting remarks that Freydin allowed himself to make on Facebook for Ukrainian women.

The lawyer’s recent publication reads: “Has Trump really added Ukraine to the list of countries from which it is prohibited to travel?! We just can’t find a cleaner!”

This comment raised a real storm of negativity from the Ukrainians in the local community of Skoki. Freydin believes that their answers crossed the border, which he reported in the lawsuits filed in Cook County.

One of the defendants became involved in this increasingly costly court battle: “This lawyer openly declares his chauvinism. This is unethical, narrow-minded and unprofessional. ”

The author Anna Filonenko said that she had never worked with the plaintiff, but considers his comments offensive.

“I was shocked - and I had to defend myself,” Filonenko said.

A federal judge dismissed Freudin’s first lawsuit, and then he filed a second lawsuit in which he claimed that the 19 man accused had left “obscene, false and slanderous” comments on his page.

Freydin refused to comment on what was happening to journalists, nor did he answer calls and e-mails from the press.

The lawyer for some of the accused, Dalaya Saper, said that there is no rule prohibiting non-clients from writing public reviews.

Filonenko admits that her reaction was a way of protection when she saw what Freydin wrote on the Internet, and this choice now hurts her financially.

“I became defensive, which is not normal, but maybe I was naive,” she said.

Now the personal page of the lawyer, as well as most of the negative reviews from his professional page removed.

The Kiev journalist wrote about this story on his Facebook. Vladimir Mula:

“It would seem that the situation is ridiculous and senile. There is a large Ukrainian community in Chicago that will unite and put the scribbler in his place. However, not many people responded to the call to support their compatriots in a rather difficult situation. And lump organizations, like #SKU or #UKKA, generally stuck their heads under the plinth and distanced themselves from the process. Now people are left virtually alone with a problem that takes not only time, but also a lot of money.

At the same time, in California, a federal judge recently issued a “motion to dismiss” decision in a similar case, explaining that cases involving user reviews on the pages of business companies cannot be considered at all. That's bullshit.

Therefore, there is a great hope that the district judge, already aware of a similar story, will nevertheless show balance and take an adequate decision.

However, no one will return the spent funds and burned nerves to anyone ... ”
