The American had to prove that she was not a robot, while buying a car
Florida resident Marcy Robin bought a Fiat 500X in a dealership in her city. She was at the final stage of concluding an agreement when she noticed among the papers a request to confirm that she was not a robot.
It was not an online purchase: Robin sat in the booth in front of the seller. In her hands was a printed sheet of paper with “captcha” - the reCAPTCHA system, designed to determine whether a person is in front of her or not. The catch is that the check is placed on sites to protect against bots. In real life, Robin just had to put a tick in the right field.
"I bought a car today, and I was asked to prove - with a pen, on paper - that I am not a robot"
An American told the Jalopnic edition that she did not expect such tests during a car purchase. After the conversation, the journalist called the center of Florida and found out that it was not a mistake, but a standard procedure.
The seller gave me each paper with a short explanation of what it is for. And then he sends me a page on which nothing but “captcha”. And he says: "And this is just to make sure that you are not a robot."
I said, "Really?" I do not know how long he has been doing this and it may be normal for him, but he is like that: “Aha.”
A Jalopnic employee told Robin that it’s okay if she confesses her inhumanity. In response, she swore that she was definitely not a robot.
