According to the funeral home Lampe and Powers, the woman passed away on January 3 at the age of 115 in Lake City, Iowa.
Bessie Hendrix (nee Bessie Lorena) was born near Auburn, Iowa on November 7, 1907.
She worked as a teacher, then in 1930 she married Paul Hendrix.
Bessie's husband died in 1995 after 65 years of marriage.
Hendrix lived in her own home until the age of 102, after which she moved to the Elderly Care Center and lived there until her death.

Two of Bessie's five children predeceased her. The woman left 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
“For mom, family always came first,” Leon Hendrix told reporters at his mother’s 115th birthday celebration.
By the time of her death, Bessie was considered the oldest person in the United States. She was in 5th place in terms of age among the 10 living supercentenarians of the world.
