Deadly treat: Ohio kid discovers needles in Halloween candy

Fostoria police warned that 2 trick-or-treat candies were tainted by sewing needles, reports foxnews.

An observant Ohio kid made a gruesome discovery inside his Halloween candy over the weekend, warning police about a sewing needle being inserted into a chocolate treat.

The counterfeited candy was handed out in Fostoria, a town about 60 kilometers south of Toledo, during a citywide “wallet or life” event on October 30, Fostoria police said.

“While we are only aware of two pieces of candy, we take this seriously and are appalled that someone would be so crazy as to want to harm children in our community,” Sheriff Keith Loreno said in a written statement.

Police said a sewing needle was inserted inside the candy.

While the child who reported the food was counterfeited told police that they received it during a meal in the North Union, Summit and Rock area, authorities said the exact street on which it was handed out was not immediately clarified. ...

“We've all heard of these things, but in reality, when someone does this in our community, it's really disturbing!” a police spokesman said.

Both police and ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital advised parents to take any candy their children received during the meal to the hospital on November 1 for an X-ray examination for potential metal objects.

The police said that X-rays will only be performed at the following times: from 9 am to 11 am; and 17:00 to 19:00.
