Central Illinois is trying to recover from a rare tornado outbreak that occurred on Saturday, when the National Weather Service warned of 22 whirlwinds, writes CNN.
The strongest blow of the elements fell on the city of Taylorvill, located about 30 miles southeast of the capital Springfield. Strong gusts of wind destroyed houses, tore off power lines and tore trees with roots.
"It's a miracle that no one was killed by these tornadoes," said Gov. Bruce Rauner, who visited the affected area on Sunday.

According to Rauner, at least three people were seriously injured and are now being treated at Memorial Hospita in Springfield, others 18 received less serious injuries.
To rescue people from the wreckage, the governor engaged the Illinois Emergency Operations Center.
Illinois averages 47 tornadoes for the year, not including December, when it is impossible to establish an average, CNN meteorologist Alison Chinchar said, citing the rarity of Saturday's tornadoes. May is the peak month with an average of about 15 tornadoes reported.

She said that the tornado was mainly moving through the countryside.
