Tennessee woman lost $190 due to scam: she was told she won the lottery

Many people dream of hearing: “You won the lottery!” Unfortunately, this news often comes from scammers who are trying to steal your money. This is exactly what happened to an elderly woman from Knoxville, Tennessee, after she was told that she had won the Mega Millions jackpot. But in fact, she talked and corresponded with the impostor. Saturia has been the victim of one of the most expensive scams in recent years. She gave the scammer $190. The scam victim showed Don Dare receipts and prepaid cards that she had been collecting and sending over the past five years. The money was transferred to several men with different names.

“He told me that I won $187 million. But I need to pay insurance and fees,” Saturia said.

The amount of money she has sent over the years is staggering.

“Somewhere around $190,” she stated.

At the same time, the woman did not even play Mega Millions.

“I never bought any tickets, I just registered. And then I received a card on which it was written “Do you want to become a millionaire?” All you had to do was sign, pay $50 and register,” she explained.

Saturia said that about once or twice a month she received calls that more money was needed, and scammers urged her to send it.

Better Business Bureau president Tony Binkley admitted that the amount of money Saturia listed was the largest he had ever heard of a single-person scam.

“People believe because these scammers are very good at what they do,” said Binkley.

He said that Saturia visited his office. She is 93 years old, she lost her husband 10 years ago, she has no family, so she did not tell anyone about the loss of money.

“You have to get a third party, someone you can trust, tell it and see what they say,” he advised.

When asked if she was going to send more money, Saturia replied that she did not have a penny left.

“I don't have them anymore. I have no money for gas, for food, for rent. I am completely ruined,” Saturia replied.

Having lost her house and car to scammers, she currently rents a room in the house and lives with friends in Knoxville. Now the deceived woman wants to use her example to warn others about possible losses and hopes that no one else will become a victim.

“I hope that in the future someone will avoid such a fate,” Saturia said.
