A pedophile doctor will receive about 2 million dollars from the state
In the US, a pediatrician convicted of pedophilia will continue to receive an annual pension in the amount of about 100 thousand dollars from the state.
In a joint investigation, The Washington Post and Frontline revealed that now 70-year-old Stanley Patrick Weber receives payments as a former captain in the US Public Health Service. The agency provides doctors and other medical specialists to government agencies, including the Indian Health Service (IHS), where the convict previously worked, writes “Lenta.ru report«.
Weber was convicted of seducing two minors on 2018's reservation in Montana in September. In January, 2019 was sentenced to 18 years and four months in prison. The man did not admit his guilt and appealed the verdict. However, he is currently awaiting trial on cases of sexual abuse of four child patients in South Dakota.
According to the investigation, Weber committed the crimes while working in public hospitals and in the houses allocated to him directly on the ground. The investigation of journalists also states that employers probably knew about the inclinations of their employee, but did not dismiss him. In particular, after a series of complaints, they simply transferred him from one reservation to another.
In total, Weber worked in government agencies that have been helping Indians for over 30 years. He retired in the 2011 year, having worked in the 25 Health Service system for years. At the same time, up to 2016, the man continued to work at IHS as a civilian specialist. Prior to helping the Indians, he worked in army structures for 30 years.
According to the calculations of journalists, for his experience, Weber earns about 100 thousand dollars a year. Thus, if the payments continue, more than 1,8 million dollars will be paid to him in prison. This amount does not include a likely adjustment for the cost of living increase.
Currently, the authorities are trying to figure out how to deprive the criminal pensions. The newspaper notes that the payments are most likely impossible to stop without changing the federal legislation.
