Uber drivers have learned to collectively deceive service to raise prices

Drivers working through the service Uber, found a way to fool the order pricing algorithm.

This conclusion was made by researchers from the University of Warwick, reports Telegraph.

The essence of the trick is that drivers simultaneously leave the application through which orders arrive to them. In response, the system applies the traditional algorithm with a lack of machines and high demand - it raises prices. After waiting for the increase in the ratio, the drivers re-enter the application and take orders.

The researchers uncovered the scheme by interviewing taxi drivers from London and New York, as well as examining the forums in which they communicate.

“Guys, stay logged out until the price goes up. Few cars and high demand = higher prices,” wrote one forum user.

How much the price changes when using this method is unknown. At the same time on the forum, drivers noted that Uber probably knows about these manipulations, because they carry them out regularly.

With this in Uber stated that this technique is not used massively, because the company "has a number of technical measures that protect against this."
