Trump's new immigration policy is making adjustments to the New York state budget. The authorities intend to further allocate $ 10 million for legal services for immigrants, writes nydailynews.com.
The news has already been commented by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
“The history of New York is the history of immigrants. The funding is based on years of work by the administration. We're doing this to protect New Yorkers! We will fight to ensure that all immigrants have access to their rights under the law. New York continues to be a city that provides opportunity for everyone,” Cuomo said.
The governor assured that the money will be used for legal assistance to immigrants, regardless of the status of the newcomers. About $4 million will go to the Vera Institute of Justice, which provides lawyers to those detained in immigration courts and state prisons. Another $1 million will go to the New York Immigration Coalition, the Justice Center, Catholic Charities Community Services and the Northern Manhattan Immigration Coalition for Immigrant Rights. The Hispanic Federation will receive $2 million.
Recall that at the beginning of the week it became known that NYPD warns immigration officers about the appearance of illegal immigrants in the criminal court, despite the promise of the mayor of De Blasio to remain a refuge city for migrants.
Earlier New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said that, in order to protect immigrant pupils, immigration officers will not be allowed into the schools of the city without a warrant issued by the court. This will be another step of the city to protect illegal immigrants.
