NYPD warns ICE of dates of illegal immigrant ships

New York police warned immigration officers of the appearance of illegal immigrants in a criminal court, despite the promise of Mayor De Blasio to remain a city of refuge for migrants.

The police in New York after checking the case against the defendant are in contact with the relevant law enforcement agencies, including ICE, warning agents about the forthcoming illegal court date, reports New York Daily News.

In New York, they promised to notify immigration officers if an illegal immigrant is accused of committing a serious crime.

Austin Finen, a spokesman for de Blasio, told the newspaper that ICE and the New York police are constantly in touch, but this does not mean that the police always approve of unlawful detention.

Recall that New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said that, in order to protect immigrant pupils, immigration officers will not be allowed into the schools of the city without a warrant issued by the court. This will be another step of the city to protect illegal immigrants.

The Department of Education, which does not collect data on the immigration status of students, will not pass on any information to the immigration services, unless the request is based on a court decision.

In January, Mayor Bill De Blasioayavil that "The presidential decree will not affect the practice of law enforcement in New York." Reminding the president that he was born and raised in New York, de Blasio noted that a reduction in federal transfers would hit the city’s police, which had achieved a significant reduction in crime.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, around 300 of US settlements have the status of “shelters” for migrants to one degree or another.

Experts suggest that US law suggests the possibility of deportation only of those who come to the attention of the police for committing crimes, since law enforcement officers are not obliged to check the immigration status of law-abiding residents of the city.
