The Supreme Court upheld Trump's ban on accepting refugees
The September 12 Supreme Court granted the Donald Trump administration’s request that the majority of refugees continue to comply with the ban on US entry.
Thus, the Supreme Court blocked the decision of the Federal Court of Appeal, deleting from the forbidden list of refugees who have contractual obligations from resettlement organizations, writes CNN.
This decision will affect approximately 24 000 people.
Trump's immigration ban prohibits citizens of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US, and also completely closes refugee reception programs from all countries except those who have “good” relations with the United States.
The question of the legality of this decision of the presidential administration is now being considered by the court, while the ban came into force and is already valid during the trial. At the same time, some parts of the ban are constantly appealed to the courts of different instances by human rights activists and immigrants.
The supreme judges did not explain what arguments guided them when deciding whether to continue to comply with the ban on the entry of refugees into the United States.
It is expected that the decision on the legality of the immigration ban in general will be made on October 10.
