In New York, introduced a new restriction on the possession of weapons
Persons convicted of domestic violence will no longer be able to legally own a firearm in New York State, according to law, by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
“With this legislation, we can break the undeniable link between domestic violence and gun violence and continue to build on the state's strongest law,” Cuomo said.
“Women in this country are 16 times more likely to be killed by guns than women in other developing countries,” Cuomo said. “If you have a domestic violence offender, take away the gun!” You know the situation is not sustainable."
Cuomo said he also plans to extend the waiting period for individuals who did not receive immediate approval for the purchase of firearms through the National System of Instant Criminal Control from three to ten days.
According to the law of New York, it is forbidden to own firearms to persons convicted of a serious crime or a certain number of "serious" offenses, according to a press release.
The new law expands the list of "serious" crimes, as a result of which a weapon license will be revoked and all firearms surrendered, the release says.
When discussing the bill about a month ago, Cuomo said that the state wants its laws not to allow dangerous people to wield weapons.
“Legitimate gun owners still have guns,” he said.
