In New York, the security of the Consulate General of Russia was strengthened: what happened

New York police have stepped up patrols near the Russian Consulate General because of a man who threw stones at him for a week in a row. Reported by RBC with reference to the US State Department.

"Law enforcers have stepped up patrols to ensure security around the diplomatic buildings affected by the incident," the department said.

City police said the same man threw stones at the diplomatic missions of Ukraine and Venezuela.

The Russian Consulate General explained that the man had repeatedly threatened the employees of the institution, threw stones at them, the building of the consulate, which was damaged, and the cars in the official parking lot.

According to RIA Novosti, the attacker was doing this from 10 to 16 August. On the first day of the attacks, he was detained by the police, but then released.

The press service of the New York police said that as a result, the man was re-detained and charged with criminal damage. When exactly the arrest was made, and where the suspect is now, the agency could not clarify. The detainee was handed a summons to the court and released, he must appear at the hearing on November 6.

In March, protesters attacked the Russian embassy in Kiev. They fired a rocket launcher at him and threw firecrackers at him; the protesters also tore the Russian flag and hung it on the fence. As a result, no one was hurt, the IC of Russia opened a criminal case under Art. 360 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attack on persons and institutions that enjoy international protection) and Art. 329 of the Criminal Code of Russia (desecration of the State Flag of Russia).
