California wants to introduce subsidies for those who want to buy housing

California lawmakers submitted more than 130 bills to resolve the state housing situation.
This is due to the very difficult situation in this market in the region, reports LA Times.
According to the latest statistics, the problem of housing affordability in California has reached a critical level. A quarter of all homeless people live in the state, although their share is 12% of the total US population; the level of private households does not exceed the figures of the Second World War, and a third of tenants spend more than half of their income on housing.
Most of the proposed bills are aimed at increasing subsidies to low-income citizens, removing obstacles to the construction of affordable housing and introducing tax incentives for tenants and property buyers.
The bill №71 provides for the redistribution of budget funds, which for decades have been used to subsidize homeowners: they plan to redirect about $ 300 million to finance housing for low-income citizens.
Project No. 352 permits the construction of small apartments with an area of 45 square meters to provide affordable housing for residents of low-income states. In addition, there are several proposals that may allow state authorities to require builders to create projects that provide more affordable housing.
The bill №540 proposes to allow cities to borrow money from the state for planning zones for the construction of affordable housing.
House Bill 181 proposes doubling the state's low-income tax subsidy to $240 for married couples and $120 for single residents.
The bill №53 will save on taxes when buying a home up to $ 20 thousand for couples and up to $ 10 thousand for single residents of the state.
