Cannabis use in Israel is no longer a crime
In Israel, 1 April came into force a law that partially decriminalizes the use of marijuana, writes Rtvi.
An exception is made for military personnel, minors and prisoners. In these cases, violators face criminal prosecution.
The law does not specify how much of the drug meets the definition of "for personal use." In each case, the police will decide. As the Times Of Israel notes, before that, the authorities were talking about 15 grams. In any case (both at home and in a public place), the found drug will be confiscated.
Amendments back in 2017, the Knesset approved. Critics of the bill from among those who advocate full legalization, say that the new rules will lead to a sharp increase in the number of fines. They note that among the police, there is a tacit rule not to initiate proceedings against those who are caught using marijuana for the first time.
