Ukraine imposed similar American sanctions against Russia

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), chaired by the President of the country, Petro Poroshenko, decided to impose similar American sanctions against Russia and extend the restrictions already imposed earlier.

This is stated on the official the NSDC.

The restrictions are directed against "legal entities and individuals associated with the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as those against whom the relevant decisions of the US and EU governments were applied."

“Sanctions are imposed at the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine for three years or indefinitely against individuals and legal entities involved in Russian aggression against Ukraine, in the preparation and conduct of illegal voting in occupied Crimea as part of the presidential elections of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Russian occupation administration in Crimea, militants of Russian armed formations in the occupied territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and the like,” the NSDC statement says.

The ministry added that the sanctions are also directed against persons involved in information and cyber-aggression against Ukraine, to illegal actions against citizens of Ukraine who are illegally detained in Russia, deputies of the State Duma and members of the Federation Council of Russia.

In addition, the NSDC supported the proposal to terminate the participation of Ukrainian representatives in the activities of the CIS bodies (Commonwealth of Independent States), and instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to take appropriate measures.

Poroshenko said that the sanctions are also associated "with the use of Russian chemical weapons in the center of Europe", obviously, referring to poisoning of the former Russian scout defector Sergey Skripal.

The list of people against whom the new sanctions have been applied has not been made public.

Recall new US sanctions were introduced in early April against 38 Russian companies, businessmen and politicians for "the various malicious activities of Russia."
