Three new inventions of the Pentagon in the field of military technology. A PHOTO
The US Department of Defense presented last Wednesday technological novelty military profile. In total, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Authority (DARPA) has prepared more than 60 of its inventions, concepts, and programs.
Presented in the Pentagon are designed for use in a variety of conditions - from underwater space to open space. Among other things, they will strengthen the combat potential of the United States in all spheres, including hostilities on land and cyber war.
Among the new products of the Pentagon's research wing DARPA are unmanned anti-submarine ships, devices for vertical movement that imitate the skin of a lizard, as well as containers that can float up from the ocean floor on command.
Continuous Tracking Unmanned Ship (ACTUV)
A surface ship with a length of 40 meters, a width of 3,3 meters and a weight of 127 tons (a reduced copy was set up at the Pentagon) is able to overcome 10 thousand nautical miles on one fuel tank. As the official representative of DARPA Jared Adams, people on such a narrow ship would be close, but he skillfully tracks down enemy submarines.
In addition, this vessel can be used to provide security perimeter around aircraft carrier groups. This will reduce the number of troops needed to protect aircraft carriers, which will allow the state to save tens of millions of dollars. One ship of this type is based off the coast of San Diego.
Taking off containers for payload
These containers are designed to create unmanned nonvolatile systems that will lie on the ocean floor for many years, and if necessary can be remotely activated, after which they "fly up" to the surface of the water.
As reported on the DARPA website, these systems will allow a range of marine operations to be carried out at a significantly lower cost than using existing assets. According to Jared Adams, this program is in the second of three development stages.
"Gecko Skin"
The Gecko Skin product was developed as part of the Z-Man program, the main goal of which is to create artificial analogues of the biological systems of geckos and spiders in order to improve the human ability to move along vertical surfaces with heavy loads without the aid of ropes and ladders. This double-sided adhesive synthetic material mimics gecko skin that allows you to easily climb vertical surfaces.
The material, which is a dense fabric with a texture similar to rubber, provides improved grip on the surface. A 2012 demonstration showed that a 40-square-centimeter piece of “gecko skin” attached to vertical glass could support a load weighing about 170 kg, DARPA officials said.
