Trump signed a ban on the admission of transgender to military service

President Donald Trump signed a decree prohibiting transgender people from serving in the military, with the exception of “special cases.”

The White House statement said that the ministers of defense and internal security “concluded that individuals who had previously been diagnosed with gender dysfunctions may need special medical procedures, including medical methods or surgery, which pose a serious risk to the effectiveness and combat readiness of the armed forces ".

Last year, President Trump announced his intention to ban the acceptance of transgender people into service, canceling his predecessor’s initiative. The decision of the head of the White House was blocked by the decision of several courts, and in January 2018, the Pentagon was forced to officially allow the recruitment of transgender people into the ranks of the armed forces.

Democratic minority leader in Congress, Nancy Pelosi, called the decision of the US President "cowardly" and "disgusting."

“The purpose of this ban was to publicly humiliate transgender people already serving in the military,” she said.

According to the president of the conservative organization Log Cabin Republicansrepresenting the interests of the LGBT community, Gregory Angelo, the decision of Donald Trump could trigger a “cultural war” in American society.

“The White House’s decision is a manifestation of transgender phobia disguised as politics,” said ACLU lawyer Joshua Block. “Transgender people serving in our armed forces deserve better than myth-based proclamations about their inability to perform their duties.”

According to the president of the SPART * A association, which unites former and current military personnel belonging to the LGBT community, on average, every transgender who is in active service gave the armed forces at least 8 years, including two and longer trips to hot spots.

“There can be no justification for the ban, as a result of which our country will lose military personnel who are ready and able to perform their duties in accordance with the standards set by their commanders.”
