Snow and rain hit New York State: flights canceled, people are asked to stay at home
The first 2019 winter storm of the year turned out to be more rainy than snowy. In most of New York City, it rained or sleet, reports CBSNewYork.
At the same time, Orange County fell to 12 cm of snow, and the storm warning remained in place until Sunday morning.
For New York City, the storm warning was canceled, but residents were warned of possible flooding.
Snowplows the night before began to clear away the regions where the most snow fell.
“We started at four in the morning. The roads are good, the city has done a great job. I just hope it doesn't get too cold right now,” snowplow driver Joe Ginzaro said.
“You need to walk very carefully on the street. The utilities do a really good job of cleaning the roads, but it takes them a certain amount of time to do all the work,” added Wayne Bisender, a Highland Mills resident.
In New Jersey, there is currently a limit to commercial travel on roads north of I-95, but not for the New Jersey highway.
Due to the storm, around 1300 flights were canceled. Passengers departing from local airports should check their departure information before leaving for the airport. Arrival and departure delays are 15 minutes or less at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports.
The authorities in New York and New Jersey continue to give the same advice: if there is bad weather in your area, stay at home and stay away from the road so that road teams can do their work.
