New York is preparing for a storm: weather forecasters unexpectedly changed the forecast

On Saturday evening, a powerful winter storm will hit New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, and for New York City, everything can end up without snow.

At the last moment, weather forecasters changed the forecast for New York. They expect that the city will be warmer than they had predicted initially, and therefore instead of snow, a megacity is more likely to expect rain. But the remaining regions of the three states are waiting for heavy snowfall and the formation of ice, reports NBCNewYork.

Snowfall will begin around 5 pm ET. Central New Jersey, Rockland, Westchester and Fairfield counties could see 7 to 13 centimeters of snow, while northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and western Connecticut could see 12 to 20 centimeters of snow.

In the north, in Poconos and Catskills, more 30 centimeters of snow are expected. In such counties as Orange and Sullivan, residents should prepare for icing - the snow will be replaced by rain and sleet, and by Sunday morning the precipitation will turn into ice.

Also on Sunday, rain is expected in most of Long Island and New York, in northeastern New Jersey and coastal Connecticut. Freezing rain will take place in northern New Jersey, in the lower Hudson Valley and in northern Ferfield County.

The precipitation will stop until Sunday noon. Puddles by the end of the weekend can freeze, significantly complicating driving conditions. Therefore, if possible, on Sunday it is better to refuse to travel.
