The Senate of New York adopted a resolution on the action 'Immortal Regiment'

On May 8, the New York State Senate, for the first time in history, adopted a resolution on the “Immortal Regiment” action, emphasizing its importance in perpetuating the memory of the heroes and numerous victims of World War II.

The resolution was initiated by the “Russian Youth of America” community, writes TASS.

“The New York State Senate voted today on the 2018 Immortal Regiment Resolution. The vote was unanimous, 63 senators spoke in favor of the document,” said Igor Kochan, president of the Russian Youth of America community.

According to him, “all senators welcomed the decision with applause.”

“The text of the resolution especially emphasizes the importance of the Immortal Regiment action, since current generations need to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers who died in World War II and defeated Nazism,” Kochan noted.

The adopted document was titled “In commemoration of the 4th annual Immortal Regiment march in New York, organized by the Russian Youth of America on May 5, 2018 in memory of the heroism and sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians during the Second World War.”

Before the adoption, representatives of the “Russian Youth of America” took part in the presentation of the draft resolution.

“We came to the Senate and brought with us portraits of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers who fought in the Great Patriotic War. The senators greeted us and our initiative with great warmth,” Kochan noted.

He believes that the assessment of the action at the legislative level is a very important step for its organizers.

“Today’s event is especially important for compatriots currently living far from their homeland, who, thanks to the action, have the opportunity to honor the memory of their grandfathers on another continent - just like their relatives and friends at home,” he explained.

The text of the adopted resolution notes that the “Immortal Regiment” action “is an important international event held on the eve of Victory Day, during which participants march in a column, holding in their hands portraits of their relatives who fought against the Nazis during World War II.”

“Because victory in World War II was achieved as a result of enormous efforts, personal courage, sacrifice and heroism of millions of soldiers and citizens of different countries, because victory and these sacrifices helped prevent the death of even more people and stopped the Holocaust, because more than 400 thousand American soldiers died in this war and because the purpose of the "Immortal Regiment" is to perpetuate the memory of the American, British, Soviet, Chinese and soldiers of other countries who fought and together defeated Nazism and won victory in World War II, and because it is extremely important to transmit the memory of these manifestations of courage, valor and self-sacrifice to the younger generation, to establish a direct connection between citizens and their heroic ancestors ..., the Legislature adjourns to pay tribute to the 4th annual New York March of the Immortal Regiment, - the document says.

In addition, 5 May marches were held in Denver, Boston, Phoenix and Washington (DC). May 6 promotions were held in San Francisco, Seattle, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Diego, Chicago, Houston, Detroit and Talahassi. In Miami, the promotion is taking place 9 May.
