The bloodiest weekend of the year: 5 people killed in Chicago, 63 injured

The fiercest day of the long weekend was Friday, July 5. On this day, 17 people were injured and three were killed in gunfights throughout the city. On Thursday, 4 July, there were 16 shootouts, two of which were fatal.

There were 15 shootings in the city on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.

At about 19:00 pm on Friday, two men were shot at as they stood on the sidewalk near Laramie & Fulton. Police said two gunmen approached and fired at the men, and then fled in a gray sedan.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead, the 65-year-old man was seriously injured and in critical condition.

At about 3 on Friday night, in the Fuller Park area, an armed man approached an 22-year-old woman and shot her in the head. She was declared dead at the scene.

An 37-year-old man was killed, and an 32-year-old woman was injured during a conflict with a group of people in the Austin area.
