Poland and the Netherlands will create a Russian-language television channel in the European Union
In order to oppose Russian propaganda, Poland and the Netherlands have proposed the creation of a Russian-language television channel in the EU. On this 20 July said in Brussels, Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna.
Details of the initiative to create a Russian-language channel will be presented on July 20 at a meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the EU member states. According to Grzegorz Schetyny, on September 10 a conference will be held in Warsaw concerning the details of financing the project.
“We perceive this initiative as a Polish-Dutch initiative, but we want other countries to join us,” emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
According to him, the goal of the project is to make available “free speech and free information” for the east of Europe, Russia and the Russian-speaking minority in the countries of Eastern Europe.
“We are talking about creating a new project - one that guarantees the refusal to use the language of propaganda and aggression, but will supply truthful, carefully verified information,” added the head of Polish diplomacy.
According to Grzegorzha Schetyny, the Russian-language television channel can create programs that could use the already existing Russian-language media.
“It is important for us that an independent television channel can benefit the entire infrastructure of Russian-language media,” he noted. According to the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, the new TV channel could start operating next year.
